The tagging system used by QuickVerse for analytical Greek searches is based on the system devised by Timothy and Barbara Friberg, recognized scholars in the area of biblical Greek study. Each word in the text of a STEP book that supports analytical Greek study is electronically tagged by the publisher according to the morphological, sentence, discourse, and semantic structure identified by the Friberg Tag System.

Morphological - Information about the basic form of a word when viewed from a grammatical paradigm, isolated from other words.

Sentence - A word’s position and function within the sentence.

Discourse - The meaning given to each of the component parts by the entire conversation or discussion about the subject.

Semantic - The essence of meaning or the underlying proposition.

Each tag begins with an initial letter representing the grammatical class. Frequently the next letter is the sub-class containing more explicit information. A series of additional characters combine to form an individual morphological/semantic tag.
